When we’re expecting house guests, we prepare by cleaning up, making sure we have food, and if they’re overnight guests we make sure the sleeping accommodations are in order.  So it is in our spiritual lives.  If we’ve invited Jesus into our hearts, we must make room for Him by cleaning up (sanctifying ourselves) because the Spirit of God will not dwell in an unclean temple (meaning He’s not going to stay or lodge there).  Just like we find out what our natural guests like and accommodate for them, we find out what Jesus likes (we find this information in the Word of God) and accommodate Him.  With a temporary guest we sometimes move things around that are in the way just to accommodate for a period of time.  We may move items we don’t really need, but are not throwing out, from the room to the closet, etc.  But Jesus is a lifetime guest, so there are things we have to get rid of, not just move from room to room.  We must allow the Spirit of God to permanently and thoroughly wash us and make us clean (bible says one baptism but many fillings.  Bible says we die daily).  2 Corinthians 7:1-2 reads “Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.  Make room for us in your hearts….”  The change begins in our hearts and minds.  Repent and be made whole.
